Our Instructors & Staff Members

Our Instructors have spent many years devoted to training in the martial arts and have attained a certain level of expertise to qualify them as teachers and also mentors.

Through extensive testing, certification and tournament level competition, our staff has attained mastery in this martial art and now enjoy sharing their skill and passing it on to their students. Here are a few of Tokyo Joe's Studios of Self-Defense, Nashua's instructors and other staff members, starting with Bobby LaMattina:

Bobby LaMattina  (Grand Master, 10th Degree Black Belt)  Grandmaster (Grandmaster is a very special title used for chief instructors of yodan or higher with thirty years experience and covers a broad range of higher ranks and ages) is not just another karate enthusiast. He has over 33 years of experience, for which his expertise as an instructor goes unprecedented. He has been called” the future of the martial arts.” He is one of the most dynamic pioneers of Shaolin Kempo Karate, holding a 10th degree black belt in the style. Grandmaster also has a PhD of Philosophy for the oriental discipline of Zen Chuan and Character education. Grandmaster has dedicated his life to helping people to instill good morals and values. His goal in life is to educate his students on character traits that will last a lifetime.

David LaMattina  (Master Shihan, 6th Degree Black Belt)  Master Shihan ( Shihan is a very special title used for chief instructors of yodan or higher with twenty years experience and covers a broad range of higher ranks and ages) currently holds the rank of 6th degree black belt, which he recently received on November 24th,2004. Master Shihan has been teaching thousands of students for over 21 years. Not only does he study the traditional martial arts, but he also likes to study Aikido, Jiu-Jitsu and Chin Na. Shihan was also voted “ 2004 EFC Instructor of the year” at an international martial arts conference in Santa Clara, California. Shihan has a great personality and his teaching skills are enjoyed by all.

Lisa Holt  (2nd Degree Black Belt) Sensei Lisa has been studying the martial arts with us for about four years now and earned her black belt on April 22nd, 2005. Along with being a full time mom to her son Conor who is 7, she also previously worked as a personal trainer and a rehabilitation consultant. She now helps teach many of our classes and is a great role model for all the children she teaches.
